Our history#

For over a decade, CLIMB (Cloud Infrastructure for Microbial Bioinformatics) has been at the forefront of supporting groundbreaking research in microbial genomics, including pivotal contributions to pathogen surveillance during disease outbreaks and ongoing public health initiatives.

Launched in 2014 with initial funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC) through grant MR/L015080/1, MRC-CLIMB was established to address the growing computational needs of microbial genomics researchers. Following it's success, CLIMB-BIG-DATA was awarded additional funding through grant MR/T030062/1 to expand it's capabilities and serve the broader microbial bioinformatics community.

In 2025, CLIMB is entering a new phase of growth and sustainability, consolidating it's position as a national infrastructure for genomics and expanding it's services to reach a global audience.
